Communications
The region is serviced by Telstra’s CDMA mobile phone network. This will change to the next G Network early 2008. Residential and business phone and facsimile service is via a Telstra optical cable.
Australia Post provides a daily mail service through the Dowerin Post Office. Residents need to rent a post office mail box to receive their mail. Ph: 08 9631 1010. The newsagency provides a mail delivery service to various farms outside the townsite.
Somewhere between 70%-80% of the district population, based on a survey conducted within the Shire, have daily access to the Internet. ADSL & wireless broadband internet access are both available.
There are computer hardware and software dealers in Dowerin, Wyalkatchem, Koorda, Northam and Wongan Hills.
Television and Radio
All television stations (i.e. ABC, GWN, Channel's 7, 9 and 10, SBS and WIN) are transmitted to the Shire, although weather can affect reception. Foxtel is also available. Local Perth radio stations (AM and FM) are transmitted to Dowerin including National radio (ABC).
Newspapers
All major metropolitan and national newspapers are available in Dowerin. Local volunteers also produce a local paper, the 'Dowerin Despatch' through the services of the Telecentre. Other papers also available include the: Avon Advocate, Gazette and Wheatbelt Mercury.
