Dowerin Hockey Club
The Dowerin ‘Tigerettes’ play Hockey during the months of April – September and are a force to be reckoned with in the Mortlock Hockey Association.
Competition is tight between the leagues eight teams (Dowerin, Wyalkatchem, Goomalling, Toodyay, Wongan Ballidu, Gingin, Dalwallinu and Calingiri) who play each Sunday and follow the same fixtures as the Mortlock Football League. The girls train each Wednesday evening at the Dowerin Hockey Field at 6pm and encourage anyone who is interested to come along for a run. From those who have never held a stick to the most experienced players, the Dowerin Hockey Club welcomes all to come and join in!
The Dowerin Hockey Club also has Minkey and Junior Hockey. Minkey is for children 5 to 9 years of age and Juniors is 10 to under 13 for boys and 10 to under 15 for girls. The Minkey players train one afternoon per week, learning the basics of hockey, being part of a team and having fun. Juniors also train one afternoon per week, learning about team plays and strategies, field and player positions, and building their hockey skills.
As with the Senior Hockey the Junior and Minkey teams follow the Dowerin Football fixtures and play games against the other towns in the Mortlock Football Association. Games are scheduled to fit in with Auskick and Nipper football and many of kids play both football and hockey. It is an excellent way for kids to interact with each other outside of school, while also having fun, building friendships and participating in a sport.
The Dowerin Hockey Club provides a safe environment for children from a wide range of ages to learn about the game of Hockey.
