Wheatbelt Heritage Rail Youth Program
Thu, 26 Jul 2012The Shire of Dowerin has teamed up with Youth Connections and Rail Heritage WA in order to run a Pilot Program for Youth which commenced this week out at the former Minnivale Wheat Bin. 7 participants have commenced working on the restoration of one side of an old cattle wagon. The young group of lads who are from various locations throughout the Wheatbelt started work on Tuesday and are doing a fantastic job learning new skills including how to use hand tools and power tools effectively. It’s anticipated that this program will run for a duration of 16 weeks (2 days per week) and if successful, the boys will be signed off with a certificate from TAFE on completion of the program. Dowerin ‘s Maintenance Officer and all round handy man Peter Worts is helping to facilitate the program and is doing a great job in doing so. If you have experience in carpentry or have a trade which might be handy and wish to be involved, please contact the Shire of Dowerin.
