Wed, 19 May 2010WA Apexian of the Year 2010

The Shire and community of Dowerin would like to extend huge congratulations to Dowerin Apexian Jennifer Millstead Treasurer/Secretary of the Dowerin Goomalling Apex Club. Jen was announced as WA Apexian of the year 2010 at the Apex State convention held in Bunbury in early April which she unfortunately was not able to attend due to prior arranged club commitments within her community. Unaware that she had been nominated by her fellow club members, Jen was recognized for the extensive volume of work that she has contributed to the local community throughout her various roles in the Dowerin Goomalling Apex Club. Jen fought off some tough competition from some amazing West Australians from Apex Clubs throughout the state and is said to be overwhelmed to receive the award which was presented to her by the district governor at the last club meeting.
As a direct result of her award Jen will travel to Cradle Valley, Tasmania in June to take part in the Apex National Convention. Further to this Jen will also join a delegation to Malaysia next year for an international relations tour and to attend the Malaysian National Convention in Kuala Lumpur.
Jen and the Dowerin Goomalling Apex Club are extremely valuable to our community and their projects and devotion to the town have provided positive impacts in almost every aspect of the community. At the recent WA State Convention the Dowerin Goomalling Apex Club were nominated for the WA Service Award however were narrowly beaten by the Apex Club of Perth for their ‘Carols by Candlelight’.
Award nominations are proof of the great contributions Apex Clubs are making to communities both in Australia and all over the world. The Shire of Dowerin is extremely proud of Jen and the Dowerin Goomalling Apex Club and believes that she is a very worthy recipient of this award.
