Local Laws

The Shire has enacted a number of local laws that govern activities on land that is owned or managed by the Shire, as well as certain activities conducted on private land within the Shire.

These local laws have the status of legislation and are enforceable by the Shire. The Shire may authorise Officers to enforce the local laws on its behalf. The Shire is required to review its local laws once every eight years. 

Review of Local Laws

In accordance with Section 3.16 of the Local Government Act 1995 the Shire of Dowerin on 20 October 2020 resolved to review the following local laws:

  • Activities on Thoroughfares and Trading in Thoroughfares and Public Places Local Law;
  • Dowerin and Minnivale Cemeteries (Reserves 16736 and 14985) Bylaws (Local Laws);
  • Fencing Local Law 2008; and
  • Local Law (Standing Orders) 2001.

The Shire invites members of the community to make submissions on the above local laws. Submissions are to be in writing and can be sent to the Chief Executive Officer, Shire of Dowerin, PO Box 111, Dowerin WA 6461, hand delivered to the Shire Administration Office at 13 Cottrell Street, Dowerin during normal business hours or submitted via email to dowshire@dowerin.wa.gov.au (preferred).

Submissions are to be received by no later than 4.00pm on Friday 11 December 2020.
