Call for Nominations – Extraordinary Local Government Election
An Extraordinary Postal Election will be held on Thursday, 24 September 2026 to fill one vacancy on the Shire of Dowerin Council.
The successful candidate’s term will expire on 16 October 2027.
Nomination period
Nominations open: Tuesday, 4 August 2026
Nominations close: 4.00pm Tuesday, 11 August 2026
Nominations must be lodged with Returning Officer Jacqui Graham:
- By arrangement at any time during the nomination period; or
- Between 2.00pm and 4.00pm on Tuesday, 11 August 2026 at the Shire of Dowerin Administration Office, 13 Cottrell Street, Dowerin.
Nomination requirements
Candidates are required to lodge:
- A completed nomination form;
- A single-page A4 candidate profile of no more than 1,000 characters, including spaces;
- A nomination deposit of $100, payable by cash, EFT, bank cheque or postal order; and
- The course code received after completing the mandatory online Local Government Candidate Induction.
Candidates may also provide:
- A recent passport-sized photograph; and
- An additional statement of no more than 2,000 characters, including spaces, for publication on the Shire’s website.
The Western Australian Electoral Commission’s nomination method is through the . This tool assists candidates to complete their nomination form, profile and additional information.
The mandatory must be completed before a nomination is lodged.
Where an agent lodges a nomination on a candidate’s behalf, the prescribed nomination form must be accompanied by written authorisation signed by the candidate. All nomination documents must be received by the Returning Officer before nominations close.
