2026/27 Burning Periods and Firebreak Requirements

Residents and landowners are reminded of the Shire of Dowerin’s burning periods and firebreak requirements for the 2026/27 bushfire season.

Burning Periods

1 October – 31 October 2026
Restricted Burning Period – a permit is required to burn.

1 November 2026 – 14 February 2027
Prohibited Burning Period – NO BURNING ALLOWED.

15 February – 14 April 2027
Restricted Burning Period – a permit is required to burn.

Please note that burning periods may be varied depending on seasonal conditions. The Prohibited Burning Period may be changed by the Chief Bush Fire Control Officer.

Burning Permits

A permit is required before burning during a Restricted Burning Period.

To obtain a permit or for further information, please contact the Shire Office on 9631 1202.

Firebreaks Required by 31 October 2026

Landowners and occupiers are reminded that all required firebreaks must be installed on or before 31 October 2026.

Firebreaks must be installed and maintained in accordance with the requirements of the Shire’s Firebreak Notice.

Property owners are encouraged to review their firebreak and property preparation requirements now and ensure all necessary work is completed before the deadline.

Preparing early helps reduce bushfire risk and supports the safety of your property and the wider community.
