More than two decades after Rusty the Tin Dog first captured hearts in Dowerin, the story continues with the unveiling of Tin Dog Puppy "Kip" – a new addition inspired by the creativity and passion of our local students.
The idea for Kip began in December 2024, when students from Dowerin District High School presented their vision to Shire of Dowerin Chief Executive Officer, Manisha Barthakur, as part of their Civics and Citizenship program. Inspired by the students' enthusiasm and commitment to their community, Ms Barthakur worked with the students, Council and project partners to help bring their vision to life.
Kip now joins Rusty, who was brought to life in 2004, and Rosey who joined in 2021, continuing the much-loved Tin Dog family that has become a unique symbol of Dowerin's character and community spirit.

    
The official unveiling was attended by students, staff, councillors, community members and project supporters, celebrating not only a new public artwork but also the power of youth leadership, collaboration and community pride.

  
In speaking about the town's new addition, Ms Barthakur said "one of the greatest parts of local government is seeing an idea from our young people grow into something that the whole community can enjoy. Kip is a reminder that great ideas can come from anyone, and that by working together we can create something truly special for Dowerin. I am incredibly proud of our students for bringing this idea forward and seeing it through to reality."
